I've locked myself out — will you have to drill my door?
Usually not. Most home lockouts are opened by picking or bypass, which leaves your existing lock working exactly as it did before. Drilling is a last resort on certain damaged or high-security cylinders, and we'll always explain why before doing it.
I've lost my house keys — do I need to change the whole lock?
Not always. If there's no name or address attached to the lost keys, a straightforward rekey or cylinder swap is often enough. If your address could be identified, we'd recommend replacing the cylinder to be safe — we'll talk you through the options on the phone.
My key turns but the door won't lock — what's wrong?
On a uPVC or composite door, this is rarely the key or cylinder itself. It's usually the multipoint gearbox, or a door that has dropped slightly on its hinges so the locking points no longer line up with the keeps.
Should I change the locks when I move into a new home?
Yes — it's one of the simplest security upgrades there is. You can't know how many sets of keys exist from previous owners, tradespeople or agents, so a fresh lock change on completion day is genuinely worth doing.
Do your locks meet my home insurance requirements?
Most UK home insurance policies ask for a BS3621 five-lever mortice lock on timber doors, or a 3-star cylinder on uPVC and composite doors. Tell us what your policy specifies and we'll fit to that standard and name it clearly on your invoice.
Can you repair a jammed or stiff lock, or does it need replacing?
Many jammed or stiff locks can be repaired rather than replaced — often the cause is a worn component or a door slightly out of alignment rather than the lock itself. We'll diagnose it on site and only recommend a replacement if a repair genuinely won't hold.
Do you fit smart locks, and what happens if the battery dies?
Yes, we supply and fit keypad, app-controlled and biometric smart locks. We always fit them with a mechanical key override, so a flat battery or software fault never leaves you locked out.
