Lost Keys
A lost key is only a real problem if someone can work out which door it opens — and a key on a labelled fob, or dropped near home, does exactly that. Knightsbridge Locksmiths rekeys or replaces the cylinder the same day across Knightsbridge and London, so a lost key can't be used, and makes you a fresh set to carry.
Why a Lost Key Matters
Losing a key isn't just an inconvenience — it's a set of questions about who could find it and whether they know where you live. How you answer those shapes what we do about it.
Key With an Address
A key on a fob with your address, or lost on your own street, points straight to your door. Rekeying the lock the same day makes it useless.
Only Key Gone
When the missing key was your only one, you may be shut out as well as exposed. We get you in, then rekey and make a fresh set.
Set Lost, Not Sure Where
A whole set gone with no idea where leaves too much to chance. Replacing or rekeying the locks removes the doubt entirely.
One Team to Cut Off the Lost Key
Rekeying the cylinder, replacing it, or getting you back in first — the same engineer handles it, advises whether a rekey covers it, and prices the job before we travel.
Rekeyed or Replaced, the Same Day
A lost key is a security risk that grows the longer it's ignored, so we deal with it the same day wherever possible. Where the lock is sound, a rekey resets it to new keys for less; where it's worn, a replacement makes more sense — and you'll hear which.
Same-day where possible
Lost-key call-outs are prioritised, so the risk is closed off quickly rather than left overnight.
Rekey resets the keys
A sound cylinder rekeyed to a fresh set, so the lost key no longer turns it.
Replace where worn
A tired or low-grade lock swapped instead, gaining security along with new keys.
Fresh set and spares
New keys made on the spot, with spares so you're not down to one again.
Peace of Mind After a Loss
Risk closed off fast
The lost key made useless the same day, so you're not left wondering who has it.
Priced before we travel
Describe the doors and the quote you're given holds all the way to the invoice.
Rekey advice you can trust
If a rekey covers it, we'll say so, rather than replace locks that don't need it.

How We Handle Lost Keys
- Tell us what's missing
Which key, whether an address was attached, and if it was your only one.
- In first if needed
If you're shut out, we open the door non-destructively before anything else.
- Rekeyed or replaced
The cylinder reset to new keys, or swapped if it's worn, with the choice explained.
- Fresh keys handed over
A working set, plus spares if you'd like them, before we leave.
Lost Key Call-Outs, Neighbourhood by Neighbourhood
Keys go missing in different ways across Central London — here's what our lost-key call-outs tend to involve in four of the areas we're called to most.

Lost Keys Knightsbridge (SW7)
Residents around Ennismore Mews often lose keys close to home, exactly where a finder could try nearby doors. We rekey the lock the same day, so the lost key opens nothing.

Lost Keys Chelsea & Belgravia (SW3 / SW1X)
Staff around Elystan Place lose shop and office keys that carry no label but plenty of access. We rekey or replace the affected locks, so a missing key can't be tried later.

Lost Keys South Kensington (SW7)
Tenants around Cranley Place hand keys back and forth until one goes astray between them. Rekeying between occupants keeps access to just the people who should have it.

Lost Keys Pimlico & Belgravia (SW1P / SW1E)
Families around Warwick Way sometimes lose a whole set on the school run or a night out. We replace or rekey every affected door, so one lost bunch doesn't compromise the house.
Where We Deal With Lost Keys
Based at 4 Montpelier Street in SW7, we deal with lost keys across Knightsbridge, Belgravia, South Kensington and Chelsea the same day, with wider cover through the SW1 postcodes and central London. One lost key or a whole set, the call-out works the same.

FAQs — Lost Keys
I've lost my keys — what should I do first?
If the key could point to your door, treat it as urgent and rekey the lock the same day. We can get you in first if the lost key was your only one.
Is rekeying enough, or do I need new locks?
A rekey is usually enough when the lock is sound — it resets the lock to new keys, so the lost one won't work. A worn lock is better replaced.
The lost key had my address on it — how bad is that?
That's the real risk, since it tells a finder exactly which door it opens. Rekeying or replacing the cylinder removes the danger entirely.
Can you come out the same day?
Yes. Lost-key call-outs are prioritised from our Knightsbridge base, so the risk is closed off quickly.
Will I get a full new set of keys?
You will. A rekey or replacement comes with a fresh set, and we can make spares while we're there.
Do I need every lock rekeyed?
Not always — usually just the doors the lost key opened. We'll advise which, rather than doing more than you need.
